Let them penetrate deep into your heart. - I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
- Everyone enjoys a fitting reply;
it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time! - Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”
- You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
- Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
- “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said, “for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
- But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.
- And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.
- So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”
- When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
- I cried out, “I am slipping!”
but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. - As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”
- And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
- Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.”
- But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,
‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” - This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’
- You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
- For the Scriptures say,
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bend to me,
and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’” - I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.
- But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.
For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” - I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
- Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
