- Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies. - Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

and discerning if they hold their tongues. - Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues. - While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
- My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
- Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

for the rights of all who are destitute. - A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—
and how good is a timely word! - A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger. - Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
- Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious,
but fools are consumed by their own lips. - A gossip betrays a confidence,
but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. - Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
- My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long. - If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.
- Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
- What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
- If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- Plans fail for lack of counsel,
but with many advisers they succeed. - In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
- Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done. - If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
- So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. - May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. - Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions. - Save me, Lord,
from lying lips
and from deceitful tongues. - With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors,
but through knowledge the righteous escape. - The lips of fools bring them strife,
and their mouths invite a beating. - Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up. - All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to poverty. - Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
- For, “Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.” - And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
- When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long. - The lips of the righteous know what finds favor,
but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse. - All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

you, Lord, know it completely. - It is to one’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel.
One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.
