- But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.

Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. - Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
- Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin.

Give up your evil ways. - Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

- The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity,
but it destroys the wicked. - Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.

And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. - But if wicked people turn away from all their sins and begin to obey my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live and not die.
- This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
- Keep the commandments and keep your life;
despising them leads to death. - So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.
- Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
- For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

for I have paid the price to set you free. - You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
- At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
- This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

and I groaned all day long. - He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
- A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
