Chinese (traditional)The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity. Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. When your eyes light upon it, it is gone;
for suddenly it takes wings to itself,
flying like an eagle toward heaven. Well then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.” In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears. Over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me. Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.” I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who cause dissensions and offenses, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them. Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be a healing for your flesh
and a refreshment for your body. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly. Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good. Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. A fool despises a parent's instruction,
but the one who heeds admonition is prudent. He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? Jesus said to him, “If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.”Next verse!With image
