Righteousness (3/5)

  • Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship is there between light and darkness?
  • In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;
    do not let me ever be put to shame;
    in your righteousness deliver me.
  • The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
    but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
  • For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.
  • Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.
  • I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    my whole being shall exult in my God;
    for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
    as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
    and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
  • Do not envy the violent
    and do not choose any of their ways;
    for the perverse are an abomination to the Lord,
    but the upright are in his confidence.
  • He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
  • Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
  • The Lord is just in all his ways,
    and kind in all his doings.
  • “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
  • Hear my prayer, O Lord;
    give ear to my supplications in your faithfulness;
    answer me in your righteousness.
  • Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Give justice to the weak and the orphan;
    maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.
  • But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
  • Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
    therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you.
    For the Lord is a God of justice;
    blessed are all those who wait for him.
  • Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
  • For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.
  • You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid.
  • Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”
  • I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
  • He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
    he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly.
  • My soul yearns for you in the night,
    my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.
    For when your judgments are in the earth,
    the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
  • But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.
  • If we diligently observe this entire commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, we will be in the right.

Those who are wise understand these things;
those who are discerning know them.
For the ways of the Lord are right,
and the upright walk in them,
but transgressors stumble in them.
