Bible Verses about Sadness

  • When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears
    and delivers them out of all their troubles.
    The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
    and saves the crushed in spirit.
  • It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
  • Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they shall be comforted.
  • Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
  • For in much wisdom is much vexation,
    and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.
  • For his anger is but for a moment,
    and his favor is for a lifetime.
    Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.
  • O Lord, all my longing is before you;
    my sighing is not hidden from you.

  • And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
  • Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

    the sun shall not strike them,
    nor any scorching heat.
    For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,
    and he will guide them to springs of living water,
    and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
  • “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
    “return to me with all your heart,
    with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”

    and give ear to my cry;
    hold not your peace at my tears!
    For I am a sojourner with you,
    a guest, like all my fathers.
  • Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
  • The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
    The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.
  • A wise son makes a glad father,
    but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.
  • Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
  • For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
  • And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
  • The vine dries up;
    the fig tree languishes.
    Pomegranate, palm, and apple,
    all the trees of the field are dried up,
    and gladness dries up
    from the children of man.
  • Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
    all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
