- When you fix your gaze upon it,
it is gone before you realize it.
For it suddenly sprouts wings
and flies up to the sky like an eagle. - Therefore, you must also be prepared, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
- A fool is quick to show his anger,
but a prudent man ignores an insult. - Even if an army encamps against me,
my heart will not succumb to fear;
even if war breaks out against me,
I will not have my trust shaken. - Rather, let justice flow like a river,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. - Let no one regard you with contempt because of your youth, but serve as an example to the believers in your speech and conduct, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
- This, in fact, is what you have been called to do, because Christ himself suffered for you and left an example for you to follow in his footsteps.
- Take care, brethren, that none of you will ever have an evil and unbelieving heart that will cause you to forsake the living God.
- Our temporary light afflictions are preparing for us an incomparable weight of eternal glory.
- And whoever does not provide for relatives, especially for those who are living with him, has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
- Because the sentence for committing an evil act is not carried out quickly, people’s hearts are prone to act wickedly.
- Everyone who seeks a prize submits himself to rigorous self-discipline in every respect. They do so to win a perishable crown, while we seek an imperishable one.
- Adulterers! Do you not know that love of the world results in enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
- Now an intermediary is not necessary when there is only one party, and God is one.
- Brethren, you were called to freedom. However, make sure that you do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Instead, serve one another in love.
- I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to render an account for every careless word they utter.
- Teach me your ways, O Lord,
so that I may walk in your truth;
let me worship your name
with an undivided heart. - When anyone turns a deaf ear to the law,
even his prayer is detestable. - Do not envy a violent man
or choose to emulate any of his ways.
For the perverse man is an abomination to the Lord
whose friendship is bestowed only upon the upright. - A good man produces good from the store of goodness in his heart, whereas an evil man produces evil from the store of evil within him. For the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart.
- The Lord abhors lying lips,
but he delights in those who are truthful. - Rather, revere Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be prepared to offer an explanation to anyone who asks you to justify the hope that is in you. However, do so with gentleness and respect. - After he had decided to follow this course of action, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary into your home as your wife. For this child has been conceived in her womb through the Holy Spirit.”
- One who forgives a misdeed fosters friendship,
but he who divulges it separates good friends. - A house and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is a gift from the Lord.
Remember that you were once a slave in the land of Egypt. The Lord, your God, brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore, the Lord, your God, has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.May the Lord, our God, be with us, just as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or abandon us.
