- A wholesome tongue is a tree of life:

- For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters,
and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh,
but her leaf shall be green;
and shall not be careful in the year of drought,
neither shall cease from yielding fruit. - Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

but a broken spirit drieth the bones. - Deliver my soul, O Lord,
from lying lips,
and from a deceitful tongue. - No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
- I made a covenant with mine eyes;
why then should I think upon a maid? - Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me. - The wicked worketh a deceitful work:
but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. - He must increase, but I must decrease.
- A friend loveth at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity. - Righteousness exalteth a nation:
but sin is a reproach to any people. - The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of trouble. - A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. - The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart,
O God, thou wilt not despise. - A froward man soweth strife:
and a whisperer separateth chief friends. - Excellent speech becometh not a fool:
much less do lying lips a prince. - A faithful witness will not lie:
but a false witness will utter lies. - A talebearer revealeth secrets:
but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. - Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing,
and obtaineth favour of the Lord. - A soft answer turneth away wrath:
but grievous words stir up anger. - A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:
and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! - To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
- For a thousand years in thy sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
and as a watch in the night. - Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. - Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
- There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death. - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
- How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. - A fool's lips enter into contention,

but a prudent man covereth shame. - A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
- For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. - But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
- He that hideth hatred with lying lips,
and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. - But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
- Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:
but a good word maketh it glad. - Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
- Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
