- For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living. - I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope. - Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
- For I, the Lord your God,
hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Do not fear,
I will help you.” - Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, singing,
“To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might
forever and ever!” - Yet I have been the Lord your God
ever since the land of Egypt;
you know no God but me,
and besides me there is no savior. - I will satisfy the weary,
and all who are faint I will replenish. - Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
- The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate. - Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not hide my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah - Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
- And it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
- I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being. - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- One thing I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple. - I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears. - Because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the orphan who had no helper.
The blessing of the wretched came upon me,
and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. - The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.”
- I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples,
and I will sing praises to you among the nations. - The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid? - I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
- Give justice to the weak and the orphan;
maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute. - Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do. After that I will go to the king, though it is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.
For, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
