- Jesus then said,
“I will remain with you
only for a short time longer,
and then I shall return
to him who sent me.” - However, to those who did accept him
and who believed in his name
he granted the power to become children of God. - Until now, in my name,
you have not asked for anything.
Ask and you will receive,
so that your joy may be complete. - And thus we can have confidence in him
that if we ask anything
that is in accordance with his will,
he hears us. - Beloved, I pray that everything is going well with you and that your bodily health is equal to that of your soul.
- This is what love is:
not that we have loved God,
but that he loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. - Do not love the world
or what is in the world.
If anyone does love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. - This is how we can be certain
that we abide in him
and that he abides in us:
he has given us a share in his Spirit. - However, if we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just
will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all wrongdoing. - Be on your guard that you do not lose what we have worked to accomplish so that you will receive your reward in full.
- Amen, amen, I say to you,
a servant is not greater than his master,
nor is a messenger greater
than the one who sent him. - And if we know that he hears us
in regard to whatever we ask him,
we may be sure
that all we ask of him will be ours. - For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world
but in order that the world might be saved through him. - I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know
that you have eternal life. - On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried out,
“If anyone is thirsty,
let him come to me and drink.” - Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever receives the one I send
receives me,
and whoever receives me
receives the one who sent me. - Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so whoever feeds upon me will live because of me. - However, whoever lives by the truth
comes to the light
so that it may be clearly seen
that his deeds have been done in God. - I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me, and I in him,
will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing. - If you keep my commandments,
you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in his love. - If we claim that we have fellowship with him
while we continue to live in darkness,
we are lying and do not live in the truth. - And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us.
And we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth. - This is the message
that we have heard from him
and that we declare to you:
God is light,
and there is no darkness at all in him. - God’s love was revealed to us in this way:
God sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him. - And now, dear children,
abide in him,
so that when he appears
we may have confidence
and not be put to shame by him
at his coming.
