Up (2/4)

  • Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
  • Worry weighs a person down;
    an encouraging word cheers a person up.
  • Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
  • How great is the goodness
    you have stored up for those who fear you.
    You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
    blessing them before the watching world.
  • Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
    how I praise you!
    I will praise you as long as I live,
    lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
  • The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.
  • A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
  • I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds.
  • What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.
  • Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
    and see that they get justice.
  • Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”
  • O Lord, you have examined my heart
    and know everything about me.
    You know when I sit down or stand up.
    You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
  • For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
    He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
  • We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
  • But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.
  • Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
  • As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”
  • For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.
  • But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
    you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
  • Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves;
    ensure justice for those being crushed.
  • For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • Direct your children onto the right path,
    and when they are older, they will not leave it.
  • Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,
    for I am trusting you.
    Show me where to walk,
    for I give myself to you.
  • So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

“Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
