- In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears. - This also comes from the Lord of hosts;
he is wonderful in counsel,
and excellent in wisdom. - But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.
- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever. - Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.
- O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
- Do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
- To you, O God of my ancestors,
I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and power,
and have now revealed to me what we asked of you,
for you have revealed to us what the king ordered. - When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit. - Because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the orphan who had no helper.
The blessing of the wretched came upon me,
and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. - Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.
- For I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance.
- To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would take place: that the Messiah must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.
- Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God. - Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?”
For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. - You have given me the shield of your salvation,
and your right hand has supported me;
your help has made me great.
You gave me a wide place for my steps under me,
and my feet did not slip. - A friend loves at all times,
and kinsfolk are born to share adversity. - How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?
- Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
be wise enough to desist. - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.
- Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to do it. - But surely, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life. - For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.
- The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the decrees of the Lord are sure,
making wise the simple.
