Chinese (traditional)Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. You light a lamp for me.
The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. O Lord, I will honor and praise your name,
for you are my God.
You do such wonderful things!
You planned them long ago,
and now you have accomplished them. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. For you are my hiding place;
you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven. Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you. Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense;
they imagine it to be a high wall of safety. Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,
as brief as a few night hours. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed. So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper,
so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me?” Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should! Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.
