But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. | But fornication and impurity of any kind, or greed, must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints. |
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. | Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself. |
|
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. | Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). |
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. | Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. |
But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. | But because of cases of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. |
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God. | For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to control your own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God. |
He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.” | And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” |
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. | And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. |
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. | Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. |
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. | But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. | And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. |
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. | Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. |
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. | Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. |
You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. | For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you. |
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. | Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. |
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. | Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. |
The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. | The Lord is with you, while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you. |
The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. | The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe. |
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. | He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. |
Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty. | Those who withhold kindness from a friend forsake the fear of the Almighty. |
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. | Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. |
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. | He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken. |
Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. | You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for your name's sake lead me and guide me. |
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. | O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever. |
