And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. | And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. |
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. | Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. |
|
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. | Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. |
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him. | May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. |
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. | The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. |
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. | And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. |
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. | “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” |
The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. | The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. |
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. | I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” |
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. | As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” |
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. | Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. |
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. | Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. |
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. | John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” |
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. | Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. |
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. | Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. |
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. | Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. |
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. | And, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. |
Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. | So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. |
Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. | Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” |
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. | But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. |
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. | As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. |
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. | This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. |
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. | Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. |
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy. | But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love. |
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. | Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. |
