- The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
they imagine it a wall too high to scale. - Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions. - The lips of fools bring them strife,
and their mouths invite a beating. - The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they go down to the inmost parts. - The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe. - Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
but humility comes before honor. - A gift opens the way
and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. - The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. - He who finds a wife finds what is good
and receives favor from the Lord. - One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. - The one who gets wisdom loves life;
the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. - Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is from the Lord. - Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,
but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die. - Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. - What a person desires is unfailing love;
better to be poor than a liar. - It is to one’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel. - It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows. - A person may think their own ways are right,
but the Lord weighs the heart. - To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - Whoever pursues righteousness and love
finds life, prosperity and honor. - All day long he craves for more,
but the righteous give without sparing. - A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. - Humility is the fear of the Lord;
its wages are riches and honor and life. - Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it. - The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is slave to the lender. - Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
do not trust your own cleverness. - Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle. - My son, if your heart is wise,
then my heart will be glad indeed. - The father of a righteous child has great joy;
a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. - Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off. - Like a city whose walls are broken through
is a person who lacks self-control. - Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family,
and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you—
better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away. - The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. - As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another. - As water reflects the face,
so one’s life reflects the heart. - If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable. - Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. - Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end. - Pride brings a person low,
but the lowly in spirit gain honor. - Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. - Every word of God is flawless;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. - Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread. - Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute. - Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy. - A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies. - Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction. - Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings. - For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. - He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Next verse!With image
