Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. | If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. |

Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged natural relations for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise the men, too, abandoned natural relations with women and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing shameful acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper. |
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. | A rich person’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination. |
Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you. | So you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son. |
