| Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. | But make sure your statement is, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil origin. |
| Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. | Now go and learn what this means: ‘I desire compassion, rather than sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. |
| In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. | By this the love of God was revealed in us, that God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. |
