- I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,

- When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears,
and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted,
and saves the crushed in spirit. - How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?
- Hear my prayer, O Lord,
and give ear to my cry;
do not hold your peace at my tears.
For I am your passing guest,
an alien, like all my forebears. - A friend loves at all times,
and kinsfolk are born to share adversity. - The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry. - But surely, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life. - I will both lie down and sleep in peace;
for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety. - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.
- Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.”
- I cried aloud to him,
and he was extolled with my tongue. - Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
- For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.
- Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose of building up the neighbor.

- Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death. - Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,

Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications! - But as for me, I will look to the Lord,
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
my God will hear me. - Learn to do good;
seek justice,
rescue the oppressed,
defend the orphan,
plead for the widow. - Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that I need. - You shall not abuse any widow or orphan. If you do abuse them, when they cry out to me, I will surely heed their cry; my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children orphans.
- When goods increase, those who eat them increase; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes?
- May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus.
- We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of everyone of you for one another is increasing.
- Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him. - Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
- Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday. - I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask,
to be found by those who did not seek me.
I said, “Here I am, here I am,”
to a nation that did not call on my name. - And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
- For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.
- My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.
